This is the finale of Mind-Body Problem Solved. Now, you know the Biblical perspective of consciousness and mind.

Consciousness and mind. Humans receive them to make a choice: Eternal life or Second death.

We’ve come a long way, but it’s only the beginning. Really, it’s not even that because, in 2023, nobody knows and shares this real breakthrough knowledge. We’ll come full circle and close the loop regarding consciousness and mind. We started in Genesis 2:7, and we will end there. We have not yet exhausted all the resources for understanding this verse.
(Mind-Body Problem Solved, Chapter 49 – Table of Contents)

Genesis 2:7

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed (H5301) into his nostrils the breath (H5397) of life; and man became a living soul.

God breathed the breath of life. Easy to read, easy to understand. Yes, but the Hebrew reveals an enormous surprise. Check it at

נָפַח nâphach naw-fakh’; a primitive root; to puff, in various applications (literally, to inflate, blow hard, scatter, kindle, expire; figuratively, to disesteem):

KJV – blow, breath, give up, cause to lose (life), seething, snuff.

Cause to lose life, wow, the opposite. We’re not shocked because we know the first step to mastering Biblical Hebrew words; one can have many, even contradictory meanings. Simultaneous with creating life, God has the power to snuff it out. You might think this is an anomaly, or Strong and Kneller are leading you up the garden path. Take a look at the root meaning of breath of life for confirmation of blowing out life, like a candle.

נְשָׁמָה nᵉshâmâh nesh-aw-maw’; from H5395 (נָשַׁם); a puff, i.e. wind, angry or vital breath, divine inspiration, intellect. or (concretely) an animal:

KJV – blast, (that) breath(-eth), inspiration, soul, spirit.

נָשַׁם nâsham naw-sham’; a primitive root; properly, to blow away, i.e. destroy:

KJV – destroy.

Again, wow, breath of life means destruction. This entire book has focused on that word and explained its consciousness, which it is. Now we see the flip side; consciousness means annihilation; it can be destroyed. By now, you should be putting two and two together and seeing how this assembles with God’s plan.

Remember, in Genesis 2:7; it’s the breath of liveS, chaYIM, plural. We have lives and death, destruction; in fact, we also have deathS, plural. Unfortunately, the translation hides this vital information from us, but Biblical Hebrew is clear.

Genesis 2:9, 16-17

9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life (וְעֵ֤ץ הַֽחַיִּים֙ – chaYIM is plural) also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die (מ֥וֹת תָּמֽוּת – two deaths).

You can see the similarity of the last three letters, from the left, of those two words; dead, dead; it’s plural, you shall die die. We have a double dose of death, just as we have multiple lives. The entire Bible story confirms this.

Hebrews 9:27

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The wages of sin is not the natural death that occurs to all humans; we’re all appointed to die once. The Bible reveals there’s a second death. I will add, but not elaborate on, this implies and is corroborated by the Bible that there’s a resurrection and second life AFTER the first death (Revelation 20:5, Ezekiel 37:1-14).

Revelation 2:11, 21:8

2:11 He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches; He that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death.

21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death (Sam: This fire is related to the meaning of breathed (H5301) which is seething).

We can now conclude the story of humankind. The Bible states there are two finalities: Either the second death or eternal life. Both are definitive. Of course, this is only the beginning of the story for those who receive the gift of God, eternal life. For the others, it is the end of the line.

You now know the reason WHY God gave each human neshamah and ruach, consciousness and mind. To decide WHICH WAY they want to follow. There are two choices: God’s and the Serpent’s.

That’s why God released the Serpent in the Garden of Eden and again at the end of the Millenium (Revelation 20:7-10) God always has total control over the Serpent which He uses as needed for trials to see which way humans will choose.

Consciousness (neshama), with its five attributes, purpose, function, socialization, rulership, and reasoning, animated by the power of the spirit in humans (ruach), are God’s qualities conferred on humans to make us temporary human beings in His image. He allotted humans time to live and choose the way to God or to the Serpent. Life is a human, temporary training ground to use the power of the mind applied to the five traits of consciousness. That way of life is directed to the Serpent or God; the choice is ours. The last chapter of Revelation makes this clear.

Revelation 22:12-15

12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city (Sam: The gift of God is eternal life, but this verse shows the relationship between the necessity for works/commandments and access to the tree of life).

15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

God’s Family, composed of those who follow Christ’s way, are IN New Jerusalem. Those who have made an unequivocal and unchanging choice to continue in their own way are OUTside of God’s Kingdom.

Please understand. At this moment in history, God’s plan for humans is NOT complete; there are numerous steps to come, too long to elaborate on here. But, every human will have the full opportunity of being called to know the truth about God and deciding with complete knowledge and lucidity whether they want the second death or eternal life.

We can now complete our diagram of the circles of psychology; the roles of consciousness and mind in human well-being.

Circles of psychology. Consciousness and mind. We choose the ultimate goal.

The ultimate goals are the second death for the unbelievers and unrepentant, or New Jerusalem, God’s Kingdom and Family for those who choose to believe, repent, and “let the mind be in them, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5).

It’s always about FREE WILL CHOICE

From the beginning, God gave Adam and Eve a choice between the two trees. As discussed in the sixth Section, the psychology of the Old Testament with UNconverted people was and still is a choice.

As The Explanation pointed out, for the UNconverted in the 21st Century, Proverbs is the best psychology book we could have. It reveals the way to a sane and stable life, the way to avoid the unfortunate mental turmoil which describes our world today. Again, God says to choose.

Proverbs 1:22-23

22 How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will make known my words to you.

Whether it’s the UNconverted before God calls them and opens their minds with the Holy Spirit to spiritual understanding OR for the converted who live in Christ, God’s Word, Scripture, is first and foremost the book of Human Well-Being. God addressed it to humankind as the instruction manual for an abundant life

The Bible is the Book Leading to Life

Scripture reveals how to reach eternal life; it’s not an elixir, a magical potion; it’s how to use the Holy Spirit to “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. And put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” (Colossians 3:2-10). Who, in all circumstances, directed His consciousness and mind in the five areas to accomplish His Father’s will. He left us the perfect example to do likewise.

Get over the pride of life

I suggest you study the verses with “…of life.” Here are a couple that show the negative implication of consciousness and mind.

1 John 2:16

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride (G212) of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

James 4:16

But now you rejoice in your boasting (G212): all such rejoicing is evil

Another translation is boaster or self-confidence. This is not referring to being pleased with one’s skills. This is an over-exaggerated consciousness and mindfulness of one’s own dignity to the exclusion of giving God the credit. We’ve got to get over that and the only way is by the Father’s calling and giving us a portion of the Holy Spirit, the “Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2).

The lives of the Tree of Lives

When he was called, the future Apostle Peter reasoned with his consciousness and mind “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? you have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68). Also called the statues of life “If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die” (Ezekiel 33:15).

Spiritual conversion of the consciousness and mind means accepting the Prince of Life (Acts 3:15), Christ, the Bread of Life (John 6:48) Who is the Way of Life (Proverbs 6:23), distilling the Reproof of Life (Pro. 15:31) that puts us on the Path of Life (Pro. 5:6).

It’s this teaching, the Doctrine of Life (2 Timothy 3:10), that helps us walk in Newness of Life (Romans 6:4) thanks to the Water of Life (Rev. 21:6), which represents the Spirit of Life (Rev. 11:11). Our consciousness and mind are transformed by the Holy Spirit as we drink from the Fountain of Life (Psalm 36:9). These rivers will issue from the Garden of Eden and quench the spiritual thirst of all humankind in the future.

All who believe and repent will access a guiltless consciousness and mind “by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men to Justification of Life (Romans 5:18). They will have access to the Grace of Life (1 Peter 3:7) and the Crown of Life (Rev. 2:10) as Kings and Priests, and will benefit from the Resurrection of Life (John 5:29) with their names written in the Book of Life (Rev. 22:19) for all eternity.

God laid out His plan for humankind before the foundation of Earth; His purpose will be accomplished. Neshama and ruach, consciousness and mind, will be transformed into the image of God, which has been and always will be the work of Jesus Christ. Haste the day when humankind will understand.
